加賀手鞠 (Kaga Temari)

“Temari” is a traditional toy whose size is smaller than Handball and bigger than softball. “Temari” had been used by children since 16th century.

“Tamara” means “hand” and “ball”. It had been used for girls. In Japan, there were also “Kemari” for boys. “Camera” means “Kick” and “ball”. ” Kemari” also had been used for long time in Japan, but since Edo period, boys also enjoy playing Temari with girls and “Kemari” has disappeared. On the other hand, “Temari” have been produced as a decoration for girls.

All of the process are produced by hands of craftsman.

Not like mass production, Kaga Temari shows various face. Craftsman produce by using materials he has based on each order. Therefore, nothing can be sabstitute for each Temari.

In traditional house, Temari displayed for praying for healthy growth and happiness of girls.

Raw materials for “Kaga Temari” are traditional yarn and cottons. Cottons are used for core. Core can be substituted any elastic raw materials.

Raw materials are simple. But, these simple raw materials creates beautiful Gaga Temari.
