宮島 (Miyajima) / 廿日市(Hatsukaichi)
“宮島 (Miyajima)” is one of the three great views of Japan as well as “天橋立 (Ama no Hashidate)” and “松島 (Matsushima)”. It is the island and the true name is “厳島(Itsukushima)”. “厳島神社 (Itsukushima Shrine)” is famous as the shrine in the sea. It is said that the origin of “Itsukushima Shrine” was established in A.D. 593. In ancient years, the island regarded as god itself and prayed by the people.
The current Shrine was established in A.D.1168 under support of “平清盛(Taira no Kiyomori)”.
You have to ride a ferry to go to “Miyajima”. It is really rally beautiful scenery of the view from the ferry.
As features of construction standing seaside, the Shrine is easy to cause corrosion. Upon corrosion, people inside and outside the island maintained the shrine. In this way, “Miyajima” has been maintained its beautiful scenery. It is said that “Ituskushima Shrine” has been its original structure since established in 1168. It is called as “神殿づくり (Shinden Dukuri)” to explain the elegance of “Itsukushima Shrine”.
Not only “Itsukushima Shine” but also a lot of beautiful historical and beautiful architectures are in “Miyajima”. Five-storied pagoda is one of them. It is really beautiful.
There are a lot of souvenir stores in Miyajima. Miyajima is located in “Hatsukaichi City” where Japanese traditional toy “Kendama” was born. And you can enjoy local food there. Especially, Hiroshima prefecture is one of the most famous area for Oyster in Japan.
